Matthew Ismay, a member of the litigation team at Douglas law firm Corlett Bolton, has been called to the Manx Bar and commissioned as an Isle of Man advocate, Isle of Man Today has reported.
He was commissioned on Wednesday 21 October. A spokesperson for the Finch Road firm said qualifying at 23 was “an impressive achievement”.
According to the firm, Mr Ismay’s first contact with Corlett Bolton was a two-week work experience placement in 2023. He rejoined the firm in 2024, having graduated with a first from the University of York that year. He then passed the Manx Bar examinations with merit, at the first attempt, when he was 21.
The firm said he has since worked on a wide range of civil and commercial cases and has developed particular expertise in contract and employment disputes.
Mr Ismay said he was “incredibly grateful” for the guidance and support he had received from everyone at the firm, from his placement through to qualifying.
The firm’s managing director and senior advocate said Mr Ismay’s ability had been clear “from his very first days” with the firm, and described him as already a valuable member of the litigation team.
