A charity that helps island pet owners with vet bills is offering to pay for cats to be spayed or neutered, warning that an ‘explosion’ in kitten numbers could affect the local cat population for years to come.

According to Manx Radio, Pets Aid League Isle of Man’s support scheme covers the cost of the procedure for any cat owner, whatever their financial circumstances. Feral cats are also eligible.

Mary Sims, from the charity, told the station that letting cats breed without control carries risks.

Applications are open until 15 December. Manx Radio reported that once an application has been approved, owners have six months to book their cat in at an Isle of Man veterinary practice, with Pets Aid League paying the practice directly.

Anyone wishing to apply can email the charity at [email protected].
