A second group of people has finished Occupation Matters, a programme run by Manx Care’s occupational therapy team, the Isle of Man Government announced on 16 October.
The programme helps people set personal goals around their daily activities and work through what is holding them back. According to the Government, it covers meaningful occupation, community involvement, daily routines, mental and physical activity and healthy eating. Participants also work on skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, communication and managing their own conditions.
The Government said attendees reported better mental health, more confidence and fewer symptoms of depression and social anxiety. Comments from participants included “It’s made me more confident” and “Occupation Matters has changed my life”.
Occupational therapist Cassie Haywood said it was “incredibly rewarding to see participants grow in confidence and make positive changes that matter to them”.
The programme is open to adults aged 18 and over with moderate to moderately severe common mental health problems, including anxiety, depression and trauma. Places depend on a referral and on meeting the eligibility criteria. Details of how to self-refer are on the Community Wellbeing Service webpage.
