Nutritionist urges island women to keep talking about menopause

World Menopause Day falls on Sunday 18 October, and this year's global theme is chronic pain during and after the transition.

An island nutritionist is encouraging women on the Isle of Man to keep talking openly about menopause, ahead of World Menopause Day on Sunday 18 October.

Angela Clucas, who runs Next Level Nutrition, told Manx Radio that many of the women she helps on the island are struggling with the symptoms and side-effects of menopause.

The awareness day was set up in 2009 by the International Menopause Society (IMS). The non-profit body has been active on menopause issues internationally since 1978.

Each year the society uses the day to draw attention to the problems women can face during the transition and to progress in research. This year it is focusing on chronic pain, which Manx Radio noted is common both during and after the menopause transition.

According to Manx Radio, the IMS also produces a White Paper every year. It creates practical, easy-to-use material for women, for the health professionals who treat them and for communities worldwide.

Ms Clucas discussed her work in more detail on Manx Radio’s Newscast programme.
