Nick Kaye, a pharmacist at Kingsley Muti in Ballasalla, has been made a fellow of the World Pharmacy Council, Manx Radio has reported.

According to the broadcaster, nobody from the British Isles had been given the honour before him. Only eight people had previously been made fellows.

Manx Radio said the fellowship recognises his contribution to pharmacy at an international level.

Mr Kaye told the broadcaster that pharmacy is an integral part of primary care. He said pharmacists have taken on a wider range of responsibilities over the years he has worked in the profession.

He added that pharmacies are going through a difficult period, with supply chains coming under severe strain.
