Sarah Strickett has joined University College Isle of Man (UCM) as a progress tutor, a new post aimed at giving students more pastoral support, according to Energy FM on 15 October.
Her work will include running tutorials across the college, meeting students one to one and reviewing how individual learners are getting on.
UCM said the role is designed to help students succeed on their courses. The college also wants it to build the confidence, skills and resilience students will draw on when they move into further study or employment.
Ms Strickett has a background in supporting 16- to 19-year-olds, Energy FM reported. That work has included young people with additional learning needs and those with social, emotional or behavioural needs.
She was previously a senior education support officer at both St Ninian’s High School and Henry Bloom Noble Primary School. She has also worked in youth work and outreach, supporting young people with disabilities and additional needs.
The college described the appointment as part of its wider focus on student wellbeing and development.
A second progress tutor post is also open. Anyone interested can find the vacancy on JobTrain, the Isle of Man Government’s recruitment service.
