The Council of Ministers is recruiting two lay members for the Isle of Man Post Office board, with the application deadline set for midnight on 20 November, Energy FM reported.
According to the government, the successful candidates will contribute to the Post Office’s governance, strategic direction and oversight. It describes the organisation as providing “a broad spectrum of postal and postal-related services”.
The applicant information pack, as reported by Energy FM, says lay members are paid £9,479 a year under the Statutory Boards (Annual Sums) Order 2026. Their travel costs fall under the Payment of Members’ Expenses (Travelling Allowances) Order 2022.
Car mileage is reimbursed at 57p a mile for the first 6,000 miles and 39p beyond that. For motorcycles the rates are 30p and 20p on the same basis.
Skills sought
The government says the vacancies would suit applicants with broad experience or a keen interest in several fields, including:
- commercial or strategic leadership;
- senior management in a commercial or operational environment;
- financial or business planning;
- dealing with trade unions;
- running pension schemes, ideally as a trustee.
Changes at the top
The recruitment comes as the board’s leadership changes. Energy FM reported that Chief Minister Chris Thomas has nominated Katryna Baptist as chair and Daniel Davison as vice chair. Both sit for Peel in the House of Keys, the elected chamber of Tynwald.
Tynwald must approve both appointments before they can take up their posts.
