A Douglas North MHK has said he hopes someone will take on The Manor pub in Willaston and prevent it from joining the list of derelict properties in Douglas.

The pub will stop trading on Saturday 24 October, when Heron & Brearley’s tenure comes to an end, Manx Radio reported. It has been open for more than 70 years, and no decision has been announced on what will happen to the site next.

Damien Ciappelli MHK acknowledged that the “hearts of our communities are changing”. According to Manx Radio, he said it remained important to hold on to places that promote “social cohesion and wellbeing”.

The pub will mark its last day with an Oktoberfest-themed farewell night from 20:00. Entry is free but by ticket only, and all tickets have already gone. Admission to both bars on the day will also be by ticket.

Manx Radio said people who missed out can message the pub on Facebook to be added to a reserve list.
