Ryan Cringle finished 23rd in the combined Prestige/StarBikers final at the World Supermoto Championship finale in Mettet, Belgium, last weekend, according to Isle of Man Today.
The Manx rider, on a factory 450cc TSV TM, was seventh in Saturday’s first timed practice, three-tenths of a second behind Davey Todd. He was ninth on cumulative time across the two sessions.
The Prestige/StarBikers class went directly to two semi-finals, with 16 riders from each progressing to a final alongside some world championship regulars. Cringle was sixth in his semi-final, which put him safely through to Sunday’s final. The weekend drew more than 20,000 spectators, the paper reported.
The final was won by world champion Marc-Reiner Schmidt, a seven-time winner at Mettet, on a Ducati. He finished ahead of Supermoto GP regulars Steve Bonnal and Julen Avila Cortes. Romain Kaivers was the first Prestige rider home, in fourth.
Storm Stacey was the best-placed Briton in 12th and the first of the StarBikers riders. Todd was 16th on his competitive return from the serious leg injuries he suffered at Daytona seven months ago. Peter Hickman, making his first serious attempt at Supermoto in several years, did not qualify.
Cringle was one of only three British riders to complete all 14 laps. He finished one place behind MotoAmerica Superbike rider Brandon Paasch, and well inside the top half of the 51 finishers.
“I was very happy with that considering who I was up against,” he said, as quoted by Isle of Man Today.
He now turns to the final round of the British Supermoto Championship at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire this weekend, which will be run entirely on Tarmac. His closest rival in that championship, Alex Mullane, retired at Mettet on lap seven.
