Banned driver stopped leaving Liverpool ferry admits offences

A 46-year-old Douglas man pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance, and will be sentenced on 3 November.

A 46-year-old Douglas man who was stopped by police as he drove off the ferry has admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

According to Isle of Man Today, officers spoke to the man on 3 April as he left the sailing from Liverpool at the Sea Terminal in a Mercedes-Benz E350. He had been given a three-year driving ban in March 2025.

He pleaded guilty to both offences before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood, who sits in the island’s summary courts.

The paper reported that in August this year he was given a year’s probation for driving on 21 May. That was believed then to be an isolated offence, as the April matter had still to reach the courts.

The Deputy High Bailiff adjourned sentencing until 3 November to allow probation officers to prepare a report. His bail was continued.
