Charity ties more than 80 ribbons on Douglas Promenade to remember lost babies

A Little Piece of Hope's display near the Sea Terminal ends today, with the charity's Wave of Light event moved online because of poor weather.

More than 80 ribbons have been tied to the railings on Douglas Promenade near the Sea Terminal by a children’s charity marking Baby Loss Awareness Week, according to Manx Radio.

The display has been organised by A Little Piece of Hope, which works to raise awareness for island parents who have lost babies and infants.

Today (15 October) is the last day the ribbons will be on show. It also closes the awareness week, as 15 October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

The charity had planned to hold its commemorative Isle of Man Wave of Light event this evening. Because of the poor weather, it will instead be streamed live on Facebook, Manx Radio reported.

The charity’s founder, Helen Sheppard, told Manx Radio that baby loss can still be regarded as something of a taboo subject that people find difficult to talk about.
