Plans have been lodged for a four-court indoor padel building at the Nunnery in Douglas, according to Isle of Man Today.
Johnny and Loni Evans submitted the application under the company name The Padel Garden Limited. Alongside the courts, the scheme includes food and drink facilities, toilets, a storage unit and a wellness area the application calls the ‘Wild Spa’, as well as landscaping, drainage and associated works.
The land, off Old Castletown Road, is not in use at present. Isle of Man Today reported that the existing car park would stay if the plans are approved.
The applicants’ planning statement describes the proposal as “a carefully considered and landscape-led addition to the Nunnery Estate”. It says the project would bring disused, previously developed ground back into use and make use of the estate’s existing parking, roads and services. New planting, habitat creation and ecological management are also listed among its benefits.
A consultation on the application is due to take place on 13 November.
The plans come after Manx Padel confirmed earlier in October that work had begun on installing courts at Noble’s Park. A spokesperson said the team hoped the weather would allow the installation to continue without delays.
