A puppy discovered roaming alone in Abbeylands, Onchan, is still waiting to be claimed. Police enquiries have failed to identify her owner.
The Manx Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) has looked after the dog since Saturday 10 October, Isle of Man Today reported. On 14 October, police said they had looked into the matter after being alerted by a concerned member of the public.
A police spokesperson said officers had made proportionate enquiries into a reported welfare concern. The aim was to find out whether the dog might be connected to someone in need of help. “These enquiries did not identify the owner of the dog and did not identify any welfare concerns,” the spokesperson said.
Police said anyone with information that could help identify the owner should get in touch with the MSPCA directly. Anyone worried about a person’s welfare should call Police Headquarters on 631212, or 999 in an emergency.
According to Isle of Man Today, the puppy has no microchip, although microchipping dogs is compulsory under Manx law.
The MSPCA can be contacted on 01624 851672. The charity charges £21 for each stray dog it takes in, to help meet its cleaning and staffing costs.
