Three Manx postgraduate students have received bursaries from the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann Charitable Trust for the 2026/27 academic year, according to Isle of Man Today.

The recipients are:

  • Saoirse Matthews from Foxdale, who is entering the second year of a master’s degree in international development at Lund University in Sweden. Her course includes a placement with the UK charity the Nepal Pahar Trust.
  • Daniel Millward from Castletown, who is beginning a master’s in astronautics and space engineering at Cranfield.
  • George Lewis from Kirk Michael, who is carrying out postgraduate research into the sustainable use and cultivation of herbal medicines.

Paul Winnell of the club said public support for its fundraising during the year, together with a donation from one member, had allowed it to expand the bursaries to three students this year. “All members of our Rotary Club wish them well with their studies,” he said.

Michael Crowe, who chairs the club’s foundation committee, said one application for 2027/28 had already arrived. He encouraged other students to apply through the club’s website.

“Subject to funding being available, we hope that we can support further Manx students in their academic studies next year,” he said.
