Gerry Callister, a member of Port Erin Commissioners, has been formally presented with his British Empire Medal by the Lieutenant Governor.

The ceremony took place at Government House earlier this month, Manx Radio reported. Mr Callister’s award was announced at the end of 2025 in recognition of his commitment to the commissioners, the village’s local authority, and to the wider community.

He has sat on the board for more than 20 years.

Mr Callister told Manx Radio he was “honoured” and “humbled” to receive the medal. He said the honour has a family connection: his father was given a similar medal for what he did in the Second World War.

The board’s chair, Hannah Mackenzie, paid tribute to her colleague. She told Manx Radio that his knowledge of the village is “invaluable” and described him as an inspiration to the board.
