Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb is holding its night orienteering event at South Barrule Forest on Friday 23 October, according to Isle of Man Today.

Registration runs from 18:10 to 18:50 beside the main car park, which also serves as the start and finish, ahead of a mass start at 19:00. Organisers advise arriving early, as there is usually a rush to register just before the start.

Participants get one hour to find as many control flags marked on their map as they can, pin-punching a scorecard at each one as proof of their visit. Everyone must be back at the finish by 20:00 to avoid a time penalty, with medals for category winners presented shortly afterwards.

A torch is required, along with clothing and footwear suited to the weather and ground conditions. A compass is optional.

The event is open to all ages and abilities, and people can walk or run on their own, as a family or with friends. Children must be supervised by an adult. The evening falls at the start of the half-term holidays.

Entry costs:

  • Adults: £4
  • Under-18s: £1.50
  • Families (two adults and children under 18): £8 maximum, with extra adults paying the adult fee

Payment is cash only. More details are available at www.orienteering.im.
