Saturday Night Live UK comedian demands Isle of Man be put on the map

Comedian George Fouracres played a 'concerned cartographer' who interrupted the show's news desk to complain the Isle of Man had been left off.

The Isle of Man found itself at the centre of a comedy sketch on Saturday Night Live UK, when cast member George Fouracres protested that the island was missing from a map on the show’s set.

According to Isle of Man Today, Fouracres appeared in the 10 October broadcast as a “concerned cartographer”. He interrupted Weekend Update presenters Paddy Young and Ania Magliano to point at the gap between Britain and Ireland on the large map behind their desk.

“You’ve missed the Isle of Man off,” he told Young.

The segment had started as an item about a United Nations vote on redrawing the standard world map so that Africa appears at its real size. Fouracres then steered the conversation towards the island. He asked whether the Manx people, the island’s tailless cats and Tynwald were unimportant too, and the sketch credited Tynwald as the oldest continuously running parliament in the world.

Coming back to his complaint, he told Young to look him in the eye and insisted: “Get the Isle of Man on that map, Paddy.”

Foxdale resident Scott Kermeen told Isle of Man Today that Fouracres was “a new Manx hero”.

The show, a British version of the long-running American format, is in its second series. It airs on Sky and streams on NOW.
