Gary Shaughnessy CBE was greeted by Zurich colleagues on the island at the end of a 1,500-kilometre cycle ride from Switzerland, Manx Radio has reported.

Mr Shaughnessy, chair of the Z Zurich Foundation, stopped at two island charities, Isle Listen and Hospice Isle of Man, as he completed the final leg.

The ride forms part of a set of 60 sporting challenges he has taken on to mark turning 60. Manx Radio said the challenges are raising money for Parkinson’s UK and the Personal Best Foundation.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015. According to the station, he has since championed Parkinson’s UK, and he takes on endurance events both to help cope with the condition and to draw attention and funds to charitable causes.

Manx Radio reported that support from Zurich staff, business partners and the wider community is expected to bring in more than £120,000 for 15 local charities.
