Douglas Council defers Summerhill Glen 'wind phone' plan over cost

Refurbishing a vintage telephone box the council already owns would cost well over £5,500, so councillors want cheaper options explored first.

Douglas Council has put plans for a ‘wind phone’ in Summerhill Glen on hold because of the cost, 3FM has reported.

A wind phone is a telephone box where bereaved people can go to speak to loved ones who have died. The proposal came before the council’s regeneration committee.

According to 3FM, the committee heard that the council has a vintage telephone box of its own that could serve the purpose. Bringing it back into usable condition would cost well over £5,500, councillors were told.

Members chose to defer the matter so that cheaper ways of delivering the scheme can be looked into, the station said.

3FM did not report when the committee would consider the plan again.
