Andreas Commissioners have refurbished the parish war memorial ahead of Remembrance Sunday, and their chair says residents will be “proud” to see it, according to Manx Radio.
The memorial stands at Andreas Church and, at 41 feet, is the second tallest on the island. Only the Cenotaph in Douglas is taller.
It was last refurbished 12 years ago. Manx Radio reported that the hope is this year’s work will keep the monument in good condition for some years.
Jackie Faragher, who chairs the local authority, told Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper that preserving the memorial was “important” as a way of honouring the men who died in the First World War.
She said she believed everyone in the parish would take pride in seeing the restored monument on Remembrance Sunday.
