Alzheimer's Society thanks venues as weekly carers' groups pass one-year mark

Better Together sessions in Braddan, Port St Mary and Ramsey offer people caring for someone with dementia a weekly break and peer support.

Weekly support groups for people caring for someone with dementia have now been running across the island for more than a year, and Alzheimer’s Society has thanked the three venues that host them, Isle of Man Today reported.

The charity’s Better Together groups are designed to let carers step back from their caring role for a while, talk informally with others in the same situation and swap experiences. Dementia advisers from the charity are on hand at each session for anyone who wants advice, support or just someone to talk to.

The groups meet from 14:00 to 15:30 and are open only to carers:

  • Mondays: Riley’s Garden Centre Café, Braddan, and Golfers Rest at Port St Mary Golf Club
  • Tuesdays: Ramsey Swimming Pool Café

Alzheimer’s Society credited the three venues with helping carers build connections, saying their friendly and accessible settings had made a real difference. A spokesperson described Better Together as “a chance to take a break, catch up with others and relax”.

The charity is encouraging anyone caring for someone with dementia who would like to know more about the groups to get in touch. For wider dementia support, Alzheimer’s Society can be reached on 01624 613181. Evening and weekend help is available through the Alzheimer’s Dementia Support Line on 0333 150 3456 or at alzheimers.org.uk.
