Chief minister candidate Chris Thomas has said four or five newly elected MHKs could sit on the next Council of Ministers, the island’s cabinet.

Speaking live on Manx Radio on Monday morning, the Douglas Central MHK said he sees every one of the 24 members of the House of Keys as equal, however long they have served.

Mr Thomas also told the broadcaster that forming the strongest possible government was vital.

He is one of two candidates in the vote for chief minister, which takes place on 13 October. The other is Kirrie Jenkins, MHK for Arbory, Castletown and Malew.

According to Manx Radio, Ms Jenkins has been offered the same opportunity to speak to the station live.

The chief minister appoints the members of the Council of Ministers, who head the Government’s departments.
