Douglas & District hit back from two down to beat Rushen United 6-2

The Women's League newcomers claimed a third win of their first season at Noble's Park, moving level on nine points with Corinthians.

Douglas & District recovered from a two-goal deficit to beat Rushen United 6-2 at Noble’s Park on Sunday 11 October, in what Energy FM described as a continuation of their dream start to a debut season in the Canada Life Women’s League.

According to Energy FM, the result was the newcomers’ third win of the campaign. It takes them to nine points, the same total as Corinthians, and leaves them three points adrift of leaders Douglas Royal.

The home side’s line-up was a young one, built largely around players who have graduated from the club’s age-group teams. Eight of them were 20 or younger, the station reported.

Rushen took control early, with Lucy Kerr scoring twice to put the visitors two goals up. Evie Anderson began the comeback shortly before the half-hour, and Griffiths equalised for Douglas & District on the stroke of half-time. Although they had to attack up the slope in the second half, the hosts went on to win comfortably, with both Liv Davis and Lucy Dunn scoring two apiece.

Douglas Royal kept their place at the top of the table with a 13-2 home win over Onchan at Ballafletcher. Rebecca Cole scored four and Ariana Roberts added two, with Sarah O’Reilly, Ellie Warren, Gemma Kirkham, Zoe Hawley, Caitlyn Smith and Kayleigh Georgeson also scoring, Energy FM reported. The names of Onchan’s scorers had not been reported.

The weekend’s remaining fixture, Union Mills against Peel, did not go ahead after Union Mills were unable to raise a side.
